With Team M’s ace Jo Eriko’s (Jo) graduation last week and Team M members Fujita Runa (Ruutan) and Ota Riona’s (Riona) graduation announcement this week, it has me really scared about the new Team M that will be formed on October 9th. There is definitely a lot of speculation I have on what this New Team M will be like and I’m concerned.
The first concern I have about the New Team M is whether there will be a mini NMB shuffle. The fact that the term “New Team M” was used rather than “member promotions” has caused some to believe that the current Team M members and KKS will be shuffled. From that group of NMB members would form New Team M and the newly formed Team BII, which will be unveiled on October 10th. Add to that Team N 3rd Stage, scheduled for October 8th, was delayed (again) and perhaps maybe management would include Team N members in any kind of NMB shuffle. Even more confusing is where AKB transfer Yokoyama Yui (Yuihan) fits in NMB and if maybe she will be placed in New Team M. It’s all speculation of course and we won’t know until the 9th, but suffice it to say, I have no idea what New Team M will look like.
And my second concern is a problem that has existed since Team M was created: how Team M is promoted. How ever this New Team M is configured in a couple of days (unless Team N is shuffled as well), it still faces the tough task of dealing with management’s continued shafting of M. The senbatsu for NMB’s 6th single, Kitakawa Kenji, has 11 current N members compared to only 2 M members. For now, there really is not a NMB TV show that M members can really promote themselves a lot since Naniwa Nadeshiko and Geinin! ended, Docking48 is usually for senbatsu members only, and few people watch Teens Hakusho or Aruaru YY. And with Team BII being formed on the 10th, I wouldn’t be too surprised if management started to promote them, especially if they include a lot of the fresh, current 3rd Gen KKS such as ace in the making Yabushita Shu (Shuu).
So yeah, I’m concerned. I’m hoping that whatever happens that current Team M captain Shimada Rena (Shimarena) remains captain and that this New Team M is given ever chance to succeed. I love Team M now and I hope I love this New Team M just as much, if not more.
Being an NMB48 fan, I was obviously quite happy to see Yamamoto Sayaka (Sayanee), Watanabe Miyuki (Milky), Fukumoto Aina (Ai-nyan), Yamada Nana (Nana), and Ogasawara Mayu (Maachun) make the Top 64 in the AKB48 27th Single Senbatsu Election. But one of things that you can easily observe is that those five members all come from the same team that dominates NMB48, Team N. Absent from the election results were any members from NMB48’s less popular and less promoted team, Team M.
I will openly admit that I am a Team N oshi, but Team M is pretty awesome as well. I really wish Team M would start to get more promotion to help the team gain more popularity. I think that there a few easy (obvious?) things that management could possibly do to help more people find out the awesomeness of Team M.
- More Team M members in senbatsu. The four NMB singles released so far have had Team N heavy senbatsu. NMB48’s latest single Nagiichi had 11 Team N members compared to 5 Team M members. I love Team N, but it might be best for the group to add more Team M members to senbatsu. Not only would they get some screen time in the next single PV, it would get the Team M members some valuable TV time on Docking48!.
- Mayonaka Panchy/Jouhou wo Hunting Team M version. When I was first learning about NMB48, I loved watching the short Mayonaka Panchy and Jouhou wo Hunting episodes. They were short and simple and helped me learn a little bit about the individual 1st Gen NMB members. Plus, they showed the girls performing their catchphrases, which always stuck with me and helped me remember the girls and want to find more info about them. Ai-nyan hadouhou, anyone?
- Naniwa Nadeshiko Season 2. I first found out about members like Jo Eriko (Jo), Murakami Ayaka (Ayachan), and Yagura Fuuka (Fuuchan) on Naniwa Nadeshiko. I’m still convinced that Naniwa Nadeshiko is the best ***48 TV show ever made and a second season would do wonders to promote more Team M members. More variety, more games, more fun. And a second cosplay episode with Kinoshita Momoka (Kinoshita) would be a must-watch.
- NMB Stage LODs. I want to watch M1 already, dammit. Oh, and N3 (whenever it starts) as well. Make this happen already.
A day late, but announced on the last day of NMB48’s Osaka Juuban Shoubu tour and on NMB48’s official website, 1st Gen KKS Okita Ayaka (Aapon) has been promoted to Team M. I was really sad and disappointed to see her not promoted to Team M when the team was formed back in late January, so I’m really happy to see her promotion to the team now. Now hopefully see her more often now, like perhaps in a future episode of Teens Hakusho.
Aapon’s graduation leaves Koyanagi Arisa (Arii) as the only active 1st Gen member without a team. And like Aapon, I hope Arii eventually finds a team of her own in NMB in the future.
At long last, Team M has finally been formed!
The members making up Team M
1st Gen: Ota Riona, Kawakami Rena, Kinoshita Momoka, Hikawa Ayame, Yamagishi Natsumi
2nd Gen: Kodakari Yuuka, Shimada Rena, Jo Eriko, Takano Yui, Tanigawa Airi, Fujita Runa, Mita Mao, Murakami Ayaka, Murase Sae, Yagura Fuuko, Yogi Keira
The captain of Team M is Shimada Rena (ShimaRena).
A few important announcements were made at NMB’s last New Year’s show. First, a DVD of NMB48’s 1st anniversary concert will be released on March 27th. But in even bigger news, it was announced that Team M will be formed on January 26th and 2nd Gen KKS Shimada Rena (Shimarena) has been named captain of the 2nd Gen KKS. From the wording of the announcement, it’s uncertain if Shimarena will also be captain Team M, but if I had to guess, I think she will be.
I’m extremely happy that Team M is being formed at long last. No matter who the captain is, as I’ve said before, I expect Jo Eriko (Jou) to be the ace of Team M. It seems like a given that a few other members such as Yagura Fuuko (Fuuchan) and Yogi Keira (Keira) should be locks to make the team. Can’t wait to see who makes the team on the 26th.
I’m a bit surprised that Shimarena was named captain of the 2nd Gen KKS given the scandal she was involved in, but I’m willing to give her chance. I myself expected Murakami Ayaka (Ayachan) to be named captain (of Team M). It seems like a lot of people are calling Team M dead on arrival because of Shimarena, but I’m optimistic that things will work out. It just seems all these girls that will make up Team M are way too talented for Team M not to be a success.
